Key to Enlightenment - June's BJP
I walked past a Buddha everyday in my childhood home. I never realized how the image stayed with me until I looked at my artwork. Crystals circle Buddha's head. The Buddha image reminds me to look within for answers. Deep breathing has helped me during this month of turmoil. The orange agate at the bottom of Buddha represents our 100 degree weather in which this piece was created. Peace.

June is hot, hot hot
and I managed to squeak this month's page in just under the wire!
Just played with beads this time --- given that I wanted to portray our 46th anniversary and couldn't come up with an appropriate theme (poetry is the anniversarys symbol...), I went with the weather instead!
It's posted at http://thatyankstitches.multiply.com/journal/item/112/June_is_Bustin_Out_All_Over_-_June_BJP_page
Sorry for the over-shiny photo.

Making progress amidst a really busy month
Well, as some of you may remember, my goal is to make myself finish one doll a month - no matter what! So far I'm doing well and I'm particularly proud of myself this month. We decided to put our house up for sale and had 2 weeks of chaotic preparation to put it on the market. That, plus some family issues, it was a crazy month. Luckily, right before the chaos set in, I had pieced my doll...and now she's coming along beautifully!
http://www.iamnotahandbag.com/index.php/2010/06/finished-shell-and-junes-bjp-spirit-doll/
However, this month, I'm doing all the embellishment first and then putting her together and am finding some challenges. First, I'm going to want to do "some" embellishment after (so I can cover seams etc). Second, the head is going to be problematic. I guess I'll have to stuff from there and then hand stitch it when I've turned it inside out (if that makes sense). Anyone else have any more suggestions?

KaiteM. - May bjp
a minimalist approach, but also something unexpected... you'll find it here on my YarnGarden blog. cheers, kaite
I finally finished May
Finally I "found" the story to go with my Secret Treasure theme for the year BJP. I knew i wanted to tell a story about my first Scottie, FalaPink, but didn't know what it was going to be. I couldn't write about his death as it is still after 10 years too hard to even think about that day. But today when I woke up, I knew this was the day. I sat here in front of the computer, told myself "this is the day! This is the day!" and just began to let the story tell itself. I didn't realize what it was going to be about, until I typed the last word, sat back and was amazed. It didn't even know I was going to write about community instead of about my wacky dog. So here is my May entry on my Blog.

June piece done early with Reticulated Foils technique
Hi all - just finished my June piece, right in time for me to leave for summer camp (where I teach enameling and beading). This month my piece includes an enamel using the reticulated foils technique where gold and silver foils are layered and fused together. Read more about it and see the enamel in it bigger on my website.
I'll be making my next enamel at camp. BTW - any of you with 8-16 year olds, this camp is an art camp (both visual and performing) and really great. And for those of you with college age kids, we take counselors from all over the world. Really fun! Check out Camp Med-O-Lark.
Have a beady good day. Karen

The slacker report
Hi all,
My deep apologies for not having kept up with my commitment to this group. My mom died at the end of March and I find that it totally knocked the wind out of me. I knew it was coming, and I'd been making the 120 mile trip to see her every three weeks, until her assisted living facility called me and told me it was time to come right away. I was there for a week and a half while she slept and finally passed away. She was a creative, intelligent, funny lady and I miss her all the time. It's funny how sometimes the most complicated relationships are the best.
Anyway, I've been trying to get my creativity back to the surface but it's just out to lunch right now. I have another family crisis brewing, my son coming home from college for the summer, and I just can't catch up or keep up. I'd love to participate next year, but for now I'm going to take care of myself and my family and let myself heal. I still look at your work with admiration and awe. Stay well and happy, everyone, and even though it's cliche, hug everybody you love now, while you still can. I'll see you all next year.

May done with Scrolling technique of enameling
Hi all - I finished yesterday, just under the wire. I know it's not necessary to finish within the month, but I do try to. Anyway, this month my enamel uses the Scrolling Technique and the fringe is zig-zag fringe. I don't consider this a high end form of enameling, but it is fun to do and the results are not totally predictable. Read more about it and see my piece on my site. I'm not thrilled with this one, but c'est la vie. On to the next one...
Oh, my January piece was accepted into a bead exhibition at the 18 Hands Gallery in Texas. I'm psyched. I really love this one so I want it to sell, but...
Have a beady good day. Karen
